Whenever I am running short on things that irritate the shit out of me, I have a simple solution.
I open Facebook or Instagram.
Five minutes later, I have enough new material to keep this website running until Christmas.
There will be an inspirational quote posted by someone who has spent the morning insulting strangers. A completely fabricated news story shared with the words “Do your research.” Someone will photograph their lunch from six different angles, while somebody else announces they are “leaving social media” for the ninth time this year.
Then come the vague personal messages.
“I guess I know who my real friends are.”
No explanation. No names. Just enough mystery to make everyone ask what happened—which was, of course, the entire damn point.
Keep scrolling and you will find political experts who could not identify all three branches of government, medical experts whose training consists of watching two videos, and relationship experts currently involved in a public argument with their third ex-spouse.
Social media never disappoints. It is an endless, renewable source of nonsense, hypocrisy, manufactured outrage, and people confidently explaining subjects they discovered eleven minutes ago.
Some people go online to relax.
I apparently go prospecting for aggravation.
